As a psychosocial practitioner for substance use disorders I believe in meeting the person where they are and helping them achieve whatever goals they set themselves. I am not the fun police! I am direct and solution focused with both a lived experience and academic understanding of substance use disorders. My role is to ensure informed choice and to holistically help the person overcome any personal or socioeconomic obstacles which may have contributed to problematic substance use.
As an academic my interests lay in the interactions between environment and neuroscience aka nurture and nature in relation to substance use disorders. I believe that science should be contextualised within real world application as far as possible and that treatment of substance use disorders requires the underlying science to embrace design limitations if utility is to be translated successfully for patient benefit.
